STEP 1

At the time of unboxing your new arrivals if you notice that the inside temperature of the box is too cold or too warm let the animal or animals warm up or cool down to room temperature slowly before placing into their new enclosure. This will eliminate any possibility of shocking the animal, which caused more harm than good.

STEP 2

Please do not feed upon arrival. I know it's hard to not want to feed such a cute animal. However, the added stress from digesting and settling in a new enclosure can cause a hunger strike. Waiting the recommended 3 to 4 days until they adjust before feeding will make it better in the long run. This will allow the animal sometime to distress from packing and shipping.

STEP 3

Well, these are exciting times we should remind ourselves that hognose can be very dramatic. Let's make this a smooth transition and as easy as we can for them to securely adjust to their new homes.

STEP 4

1. Start with a 16 quart bin (locking lid preferred) or smaller.

2. Keep one side of the enclosure at 85°F to 88°F, with the thermostat and the other side without heat.

3. Aspen bedding is the commonly used substrate for hognose. Offer them twice the body height of bedding so they can borrow securely. This will allow them to feel a sense of security and acclimate quicker.

4. If they refuse to eat after one or two feedings, do not attempt to send! Let him or her be for the next 3 to 4 days before attempting to feed again.
